Designing your data collection forms.
PocketLog requires no programming skills - all
you need is a clear idea of the questions that the form will
answer. Define your form either on the PDA (Palm or PocketPC) or on the PC with a
list of the fields you want for that form. For each
data field you want to collect, you have six choices:
Numeric, Text, Date, Time, Checkbox, or Menu. Select the type
that fits your data the best. Virtually any paper form can be
quickly implemented in PocketLog.
The PocketLog Forms
Designer module enables you to rapidly build a wide range of
forms for a wide variety of applications. Using a simple, programming free design environment you have the ability to create
data collection plans in hours that would have taken months using traditional application methods.
Your forms are easily modified as your business requirements
change.
Collecting your data.
The PocketLog software acts somewhat like a spreadsheet, with each
field the equivalent of a column, and each sample is a row
on the spreadsheet.
Data entry is
simplified. The Data Collection screen shows all the fields, waiting
for your input. Enter numbers or text, select from a list of
options, set or clear a checkbox, enter time and date.
You can set PocketLog to advance at the touch of a
button to the next
record (sample) or to the next form in the list.
PocketLog supports multiple
users (Palms/PocketPCs). The
PocketLog User Manager allows you to select which forms to
download to which user/Hand-held. You can split large jobs, like
inventory, between multiple users - or assign the same forms to
all users.

Need to read
Barcodes?
Reading barcodes
is specific to the hardware, with each brand of hardware having
their own method and most Palm hardware is not capable of reading
barcodes at all. The Meazura ID::VERIFI™ Laser Barcode
Scanner, however, integrates nicely with PocketLog - simply define
a text field of the correct size and configure the scanner for the
type of barcode needed. A touch of a button, and the barcode is
scanned and stored.

The PocketLog data collection software

- Multiple forms - with PocketLog, you're not
limited to one or two forms, but you can have as many different forms as
you need.
- Multiple users - with PocketLog you can
support multiple users (Palm or PocketPC units), each with their own set of forms, or
the same forms for everybody. PocketLog is licensed on a
per-host (PC) basis, and includes support for up to 5 Palms or
PocketPCs per
host (PC). Host support for additional hand-helds can be
purchased for a reasonable cost.

your forms as your business changes. You can even revise
your forms in the field while collecting data.
- Your choice of output - upload your data from the Palm to a
CVS text file, an Excel spreadsheet, or to a MS Access database.
PocketLog can output to virtually any ODBC database.

or rugged industrial units like the Symbol or Meazura. By
